The Palace
Louis XIV transformed Versailles into the political centre of France. Its architecture, decoration and ceremonies expressed royal authority and governed life at Court.
The Hall of Mirrors
This celebrated gallery overlooks the gardens and is decorated with mirrors, chandeliers and paintings honouring Louis XIV. It later hosted major events, including the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.
The Gardens
Designed principally by André Le Nôtre, the gardens combine long perspectives, fountains, sculptures and ornamental pools to create a monumental royal landscape.
The Trianon Estate
The Grand Trianon provided Louis XIV with a retreat from Palace ceremony. The Petit Trianon and Queen’s Hamlet are closely associated with Marie-Antoinette. These sites are explored independently on this tour.
