Legend has it that Gabrielle d’Estrées, Duchess of Beaufort and Verneuil and the beloved mistress of King Henri IV from 1591 to 1599, once lived on this very street. So enamored was the king that, upon arriving here during one of his visits, he is said to have declared: “Here lies my heart.” It is from this romantic moment that the street draws its name.
