Village of Giverny
Giverny, a charming village located 75 km from Paris, is widely recognized as the birthplace of Impressionism. With its authentic charm and vibrant floral displays, Giverny whispers stories of its artistic past.
Claude Monet discovered Giverny while gazing out of a train window and was immediately captivated. Initially renting a house in the area, he later purchased it in 1890, along with the surrounding land, to create the stunning gardens that would become both his inspiration and his artistic canvas.
Monet transformed the garden into a masterpiece, filling it with flowers that grew quickly and inspired his iconic works, such as Glycines, Coin de l’étang à Giverny, and Nymphéas. Giverny became his private sanctuary, reflecting his love for nature and his evolving state of mind. He once wrote to his friend Duret, “I am in delight; Giverny is a magnificent place for me.”
This picturesque village remains a tribute to Monet’s artistic genius and his passion for gardening, attracting visitors from around the world to experience its timeless beauty.
