BLUEBEARD’S CASTLE/ THE HUMAN VOICE

What do Bartok’s rich, orchestral luxuriance and Poulenc’s intimate, chamber-like approach share? The director Krzysztof Warlikowski has conceived a common theme, a common feminine consciousness and a common sense of imprisonment and suffocation within a relationship. Ingo Metzmacher directs an exceptional trio of performers – Ekaterina Gubanova, John Relyea and Barbara Hannigan – who bestow a certain tragic grandeur upon their respective roles.
